On the 11th of December, 1931 a group of Italian Immigrants sat on the Church Steps in Nelson and took this photograph. Mostly farmers and fishermen, they represented their wives and young families and formed the backbone of a newly established local Italian community. On this day in 1931 they celebrated the grand opening of Club Italia Nelson.
Today the Club is an integral part of the lives of the descendants of those founding members, and many more locals. Our Club holds regular events, get together’s, dinners and celebrations – ensuring our rich and vibrant Italian culture remains an outstanding part of life in Nelson.
